In my own words
My story.
I’m Bob Bogoslowski, and I’m running for Powell River City Council because I love this community and want to help us move forward together.
I was born and raised here. I spent 33 years working at the mill, and more than 40 years volunteering, coaching and helping with community events. Powell River has shaped my life, and giving back has always been part of it.
Sport has been a big part of my story. From hockey, soccer and baseball to junior golf, I’ve learned how much people can accomplish when they work together. I’ve coached young players, volunteered with Special Olympics and Meals on Wheels, and helped organize events that brought our community together. I enjoy being involved and doing my part.
After my mill career, I spent two years supporting adults with developmental disabilities. I found that work deeply rewarding. The kindness and honesty of the people I worked with taught me a great deal, too.
Now that I’m retired, I have the time and energy to take on a new responsibility. I want to bring that same commitment to council.
I want us to look carefully at what we spend, protect essential services and rebuild our commercial and industrial tax base. I want people to feel safe in their neighbourhoods, with real help for those struggling with addiction and clear standards for behaviour in shared public spaces. I want seniors to have housing choices and the support to stay connected to the community they know.
Just as importantly, I want us to treat one another better when we disagree. We can face difficult issues without turning neighbours against each other. To me, peace and harmony mean being willing to listen, speak honestly and keep working toward a solution.
My message is simple: I listen and I care. I’m asking for the opportunity to put that into practice as your councillor.
At a glance
ROOTED HERE.
READY TO LISTEN.
- Born and raised in Powell River
- 33 years working at the Powell River mill
- More than 40 years of local volunteering, coaching and service
- Leadership roles in community sport, major events and junior golf
How I lead
CALM. CLEAR.
RESPECTFUL.
I listen before I decide. I treat disagreement with respect. I explain difficult choices plainly and look for practical common ground.
Peace and harmony do not mean avoiding hard decisions. They mean making them calmly, openly and with the whole community in mind.
What I am focused on
THE LOCAL ISSUES
THAT NEED WORK.
These are practical municipal priorities. I will measure progress, explain tradeoffs and keep the public conversation grounded in respect.
- 01Responsible local finances
- Protect essential services, demand value from every tax dollar, and rebuild a broader commercial and industrial tax base.
- 02Safety, compassion and standards
- I believe compassion must include a real path to recovery. Addiction can contribute to losing a home and make it harder to get housed again. Homelessness can also worsen substance-use problems. I will advocate for detox, treatment and abstinence, with sober, recovery-focused housing and clear public standards we rigorously uphold.
- 03Seniors and housing
- Expand accessible housing choices, community connection and practical supports so seniors can remain close to the people and place they know.
- 04A stronger local economy
- Use City land and assets strategically, welcome responsible investment, and broaden the tax base without losing what makes Powell River home.
- 05Ferries and regional access
- Advocate consistently for reliable ferry service, stronger contingency planning and regional cooperation.
- 06Recreation and transparent government
- Support recreation that connects people, explain council decisions clearly, and report results residents can follow.
